REVIVAL of Youth Newsletter(s)
Toni Hitchcock wants to restart the Sunrise Journal and / or Stargazer. She writes "My children just turned 9, 8, and 6- a handful! Living where we do, it has been a real challenge to find ways to introduce them to humanist concepts, and more of a challenge to hold firm to their own ideas and feelings on things when their friends are heavily involved in religious activities (to the point where a table promoting bible study was part of "Back To School" night at their public school). This is what brought me to the FOH site in the first place, the search for more information and resources geared towards children."
Some history: A few years after we started the FOH newsletter, we added "Youth Pages" which featured items for, by, and about the children of our adult members. Then we started the Sunrise Journal. As our children grew, we added newsletters which we thought were more appropriate for our growing humanists: The Stargazer for youth from about 8 to 12 and The Starwalker for teenagers, and the Sunrise Journal became for humanists under about 8 years old. The newsletters had a variety of editors and maintained separate mailing lists of 30 or so subscribers, each, for years. Some families received several of them at a time, or changed subscriptions as their children grew.
Eventually each youth newsletter ended when editors were not located to keep them going.
